History of Painter Creek Winery & Cidery
The owners Lowell and Phyllis Schaper built their family home on 40 acres of land in Minnetrista, MN. They grew apple trees on 12 acres of this land from which they started a family-owned business, Minnetonka Orchards. Minnetonka Orchards has become a well-known area for families to visit in the Fall for apple picking, a small petting zoo, hayrides, walking trails, and shopping.
In 2012, thanks to the University of Minnesota for turning a wild Minnesota grape into a cold-climate wine grape (one that will survive 30 below), Lowell and Phyllis decided to open a winery. They turned an old horse stable, adjacent from Minnetonka Orchards, into a wine production center and tasting room.
